How can I convert my civil partnership?
From the 10th December 2014 you can convert your civil partnership to a marriage and there are two choices open to you. First, you can have a simple conversion at your local registry where the registrar will complete the conversion for you. Second, you can have the conversion at another venue recognised by the register, which will allow a ceremony to be held after the conversion is complete.
For the first year there will be a £45 discount for those wishing to convert. Normally it is £45 at the council’s registry office, so it will be free for a year. However, if you want the conversion to be held at a recognised venue then you will need to pay £45 as this normally costs £90 to take into account travel and waiting time for the registrar or their assistant.
It’s also worth noting that the marriage certificate will be backdated to the date the civil partnership was formed, so you will effectively be married from that date.
A conversion is a great excuse for a party, so why don’t you get in contact with us today. We would love to work with you to make your conversion a memorable and special day. It’s also a one-off opportunity to relive the moment that you entered into your civil partnership.
