Can gay US citizens get married in the UK?

All US citizens can get married in the UK as long as they have been in the UK for eight days. However, there are some differences for gay couples:

• You have the option of a Civil Partnership which some gay couples favour.
• You can’t currently get married in Northern Ireland as gay marriage is not allowed there yet.  However, this will change very soon.

What many couples opt for is a quick marriage with a few close friends or family  in their own country then a humanist ceremony or a blessing the UK.  This significantly reduces the amount of bureaucracy,  but some don’t like the idea of this.
